The physical condition of BJP MP and former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Ganguly has taken a serious turn, with doctors now describing his health as "critical." Admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata, Ganguly's well-being has been a cause for concern since his hospitalization, and the latest updates indicate a significant deterioration, prompting heightened medical attention.
On Wednesday, the hospital released a statement confirming that Abhijit Ganguly is suffering from acute pancreatitis, a severe inflammation of the pancreas. His treatment is ongoing in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with multi-organ support, indicating that multiple bodily systems may be affected or at risk. This serious diagnosis necessitates continuous and intensive medical monitoring.
Hospital sources further revealed that Ganguly had to be placed on non-invasive ventilation on Tuesday night, a measure typically employed when a patient's breathing is compromised but does not yet require full mechanical support. This indicates a challenging respiratory situation contributing to his critical state.
Adding to the complexity of his condition, doctors have stated that beyond acute pancreatitis, Abhijit Ganguly also suffers from pre-existing comorbidities, including high blood pressure, diabetes, and thyroid problems. This combination of illnesses makes his treatment particularly challenging, as managing one condition can impact the others, requiring a highly specialized and coordinated approach.
In response to his critical and multi-faceted illness, a medical board has been constituted to oversee his treatment. To ensure the most comprehensive and expert care, the number of members in this board has now been increased to eight.
